Polytunnel

Our polytunnel is situated in the garden area opposite the farmhouse. The polytunnel is 24 metres long and 4 metres wide or roughly 80 feet long and 13 feet wide. We do use the polytunnel to grow indoor crops such as Tomatoes but the main purpose is to grow on seeds which we then transplant into the garden area outside. These plants are then harvested when ready and sold on our stall in Llanelli Indoor Market.

We will plant large numbers of seeds, so far this year we have planted over 2000 Lettuce, 2500 Cabbage as well as Beetroot, Parsley and of course Tomato seeds.

Our complete planting process is all entirely by hand, filling the modules and pots with compost and then planting each seed individually. After a few days of planting we tend to see pots and modules in our sleep!!

Many of the seeds are really tiny and it can take a huge amount of concentration to make sure that only one seed is planted at a time. We have always planted our indoor seed this way and feel that although it can be tedious and fiddly work it adds a personal touch to our work.

We will continue to plant certain seed such as Lettuce every couple of weeks during this time of year. This ensures that we have a constant supply for our stall in Llanelli Market.

We also produce plug plants such as Cabbage, Lettuce and Tomatoes which are grown on and then taken to our stall in Llanelli Market. You can purchase these and transplant them into your own garden or greenhouse and therefore enjoy picking your own fresh produce…why not give it a go!

Why not follow our gallery updates to see what we are planting and how our plants are growing. Then when you buy one of our lovely fresh Lettuce you can see exactly how it was produced.
